Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is steeped in history and culture, from being the home of kings who ruled over the Holy Roman Empire, to enduring Communist Era influences, to today, when Prague stands as the gem of Eastern Europe, the ‘City of a Hundred Spires‘ and cute Christmas Markets.

I lived a couple of months in Prague and loved the underground bar scene – think fancy cocktails, having to find the right door, peeking in to see if there’s room, and being surprised by how chic and lively all of them are – it’s like all of Prague is down there!

What To Expect

  • Favorite Places: Prague, Horseshoe Point Hike
  • Best Time To Visit: May, June, September, December (Christmas Markets)
  • Language: Czech, although most young people will speak English.
  • Capital: Prague
  • ATMs will accept foreign cards and are widely available in all cities and towns.
  • Credit Cards are accepted, but it’s best to have cash (€) on you.
  • Tipping is not expected but welcome. If you get good service, round up the bill.
  • Fun Fact: The city of Plzeň (Pilsen) created the world’s first pale lager, Pilsner Urquell, in 1842. Also, this country has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world!
